ChemDesign Partners with Marinette Agencies to Improve Lives

Marinette, Wis. – September 6, 2013 – ChemDesign employees are actively helping area agencies in Marinette/Menominee improve the quality of life of families struggling with addictions.

Shelly Derouin, Administrative Assistant with ChemDesign since 2007, was one of the first citizens appointed as a Community Advocate with the Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) committee, which is part of the State of Wisconsin Blue Ribbon Commission on Mental Health. Comprised of community leaders, citizens and county officials, she works with the team to develop effective mental health delivery systems for serving at-risk adult and adolescents and youth in Marinette County. The committee has grown to 14 members and includes the regional Directors for Goodwill and the YMCA.

Over the last twelve months, 42 citizens have been enrolled in the County’s CCS program and have their own Recovery Teams, comprised of CCS facilitators, CCS nurses and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AODA) staff. Derouin is encouraged by the program’s growth and believes the high rating on surveys (8.7 of 10) from participants is an indicator of future success.

On the other side of the river, Brian Bourgeois, Human Resource and Employee Development Manager, is involved with the Healthy Youth Coalition of Menominee, Michigan. This group is targeting drug awareness in our communities and working with employers to educate the workforce on the hazards of substance abuse.

ChemDesign is one of the Marinette/Menominee area employers who offer assistance for employees struggling with life stresses, or turning to drugs and alcohol. They hold zero tolerance policy on use: employees must come to work mentally ready and substance-free.

ChemDesign, www.chemdesign.com, provides chemical toll processing for companies in the agricultural chemicals, consumer, energy, industrial and plastics industries. The company employs over 100 people at their facility in Marinette, Wisconsin.
